
One of the absolutely best days in my career happened while I was on vacation last August. The moment was surreal, talking to my agent on the phone after a long day in the water at the lake with the kids. Most days on vacation feature a celebratory cocktail or two, but this particular moment deserved one with intention: my dummy, a story I wrote — had been bought by a big five publisher.

How did I get here?
It was a roller coaster and one that I was not prepared to be strapped into, but first a bit of background. When I was querying literary agencies, only one wanted to read more of what I’d written.1 This is not that unusual of an ask and luckily I had a few I liked in various stages of done.
